When to see a chiropodist

Many people do not know or are wondering when to go to the chiropodist and in this article we are going to explain it. It is crucial to observe the development of the foot at different stages of growth, as each phase presents unique characteristics and specific potential problems that need to be monitored. From early infancy, through childhood and adolescence, to adulthood and old age, the foot undergoes significant changes that can affect overall health and well-being. Proper podiatric care at each stage is essential to detect and treat any abnormalities early, ensuring healthy development and preventing future complications.

After 3 or 4 years

The first podiatric check-up is essential to ensure proper foot development in children. We recommend this first consultation, especially if parents notice that the child "rolls over a lot", falls frequently, trips or tucks the foot in a lot. These may be signs that something is not developing as it should. At this age, the main ossification nuclei have already formed, allowing for more accurate monitoring and examination.

Around 8 or 9 years old

At this age, the child begins to develop a gait pattern more similar to that of an adult. This is a key time to detect any changes or abnormalities in the way they walk. A podiatric check-up can help identify problems before they become more serious.

During adolescence, the body undergoes significant changes due to the hormonal revolution and the development of the musculoskeletal system. Performing a third podiatric examination at this stage is crucial to assess the foot and posture. Identifying problems during this period can prevent complications in adulthood.

The foot in adulthood and old age

In adulthood, visits to the podiatrist should be regular, especially for those with diabetes. An annual examination can help to prevent injuries and to identify alterations before they become serious. In addition, any systemic disorders that may affect the foot or postural system, such as rheumatism or osteoarthritis, should be monitored by a podiatrist.

Senior citizens

In old age, our mobility and abilities are reduced, which makes foot care even more important. Getting help with nail trimming and foot cleaning (chiropody) is essential to maintaining good podiatric health. Regular check-ups with a podiatrist can prevent complications and ensure a better quality of life.

Visit your podiatrist

Taking care of your feet is taking care of your overall health. By visiting your podiatrist regularly, you not only prevent foot pathologies or injuries, but you also protect other parts of your body that may be affected. Do not hesitate to consult your podiatrist if you have any doubts or problems with your feet.
